I have been having a look at these free laptop with broadband deals.
Normally I wouldnt touch things like this with a bargepole as I know they tend to be a bit of a rip off.
However, we are absolutley at the end of our tether with our current orange broadband and have been looking at changing supplier. I also need to get a laptop prior to an open university course I have starting in November. I get a grant of £255 to spend on expenses for my course so I was planning on spending that and maybe £100 more.
My broadband is currently £12.99pm, we are not eligible for any of the free broadband deals from sky/ talk talk etc.
I have only so far looked at the carphone warehouse deals, which are £19.99 for 24 months, so 7 a month more than im paying now, so £168 for the laptop?
Minimum spec requirements for my course:
Processor : Pentium 2GHz
Memory (RAM) : 256MB
Operating system : Windows XP Home
Colour monitor, capable of displaying 1024x768 resolution and “High Color” with appropriate video card to support this. TFT/LCD or CRT monitors are also suitable.
Hard disc drive, at least 20GB
Pointing device (mouse, trackball, pen/pad, voice-activated)
Keyboard
Floppy disk drive, 1.44MB (optional, but most computers have one)
Colour printer
56kbps dial-up or broadband modem
Sound card or onboard sound, microphone (some courses only) & speakers/headphones
My husband is in the military and will take it away with him sometimes so it would be helpful if it wasnt too bad at playing games.

AOL deals seem to be out on further investigation..Offer only available in selected areas. If you can’t get this offer, you may still be able to get AOL Broadband but you will be charged an extra £10 per month.
Not paying £29.99 a month just because we dont live in the right area, grr.
Off to look at some others now.0 -
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is  you will pay for it somewhere along the line...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. You're not going to get a laptop capable of playing games free with a broadband contract. Unless all he wants is to play minesweeper and online flash games.
Personally I think you'd be better choosing a laptop you actually want. Then sorting out your broadband seperately. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Yeah it is looking that way. He doesnt play any particually exciting games, championship manager from a few years ago etc etc. xx0
