Stench Pipe Question

My stench pipe runs up the corner of the bathroom. A standard length bath fits neatly in my bathroom with a few inches to spare. However, this means that I have to cut a small corner out of the bath to miss the stench pipe. Is there any reason why I can't narrow the stench pipe so it doesn't interfere with the bath? I can see that the pipe needs to be large diameter heading down to the sewer, but surely the part that only carries air upwards does not need to be 4" diameter.
Thanks for your help

Cut the pipe under the bath and put a air trap vent on instead.http://www.screwfix.com/prods/89854/Plumbing/Soil-Vent/FloPlast-Solvent-Weld-Air-Admittance-Valve-Black0

As above - but dont forget to either remove the pipe that you have left above and fill in the gap in your roof, or you could put a 'cap' on the top of it to stop rain water coming down it - you could then cut it flush with your ceiling internally and replaster the ceiling. problem solved.0 -
Hi
Do not fit an air admittance valve under the bath. They must be fitted above the flood level of the highest fittting, most likely the basin (or sink as they are commonly know)
You can go down to 3" diameter pipe. If thats not good enough find another route ,such as going outside the building and back in or just outside and up.
