Focus radio losing reception

I have an 02 Focus.A few months ago the radio started turning itself off (I just thought it was the front plate working itself loose)

About 5-6 weeks I then started to lose reception on the radio after about 20-25 minutes of driving. Happens on all stations and AM/FM.

I searched the net and it seems other people have this problem as well but they seemed to be state side. So, anyone in the UK also having/had this problem?
I took it to the Ford dealer today who said it would have to be tested, £85 :eek:

do you have the AF button pressed on?
this is alternating frequency,it allows the radio to roam for a better reception when you are on the move.
if the AF is on in the display check all connections in the back making sure all are fitted properly including the ariel lead.

For the sake of £85 you could get another Ford stereo from ebay or such places.

But try what goldilocks says above.

It always amazes me when i watch people come out of a car wash and screw their aerial back in without letts the trapped moisture evaporate first, try taking the aerial out and seeing if its rusted up inside, i had this on a friends car once, cleaned the metal up and it was perfect

The focus is known for corrosion where the aerial meets the roof. Remove the interior light and the aerial is fixed with a nut. Remove that and check that there is no corrosion.

I had a quick look at the manual and the button for AF is not on my stereo. Went through menu and it wasn't in there either. Will have another look.

Got some removal keys today and have a friend of a friend with a focus so hopefully will be able to test it in his. Will also check the aerial as suggested. Thanks.

if you have the 6000 model then the AF setting is in the menu, i think if i remember correctly you hold the menu button in to open a different menu up and the AF setting is in there.
i swapped my 6000 for a jvc and a face plate so cant really remember.
