Credit Card for Purchase only for 18 year old

Hey all
Im sorry if this has already been posted, couldn't find it with the search tool. Basically I am looking to get a credit card because recently I have had a bad experience buying some festival tickets online and they realising the company was a fraud and I was not able to cancel the transaction due to me paying with debit.
So basically this is the idea. I need a card which for purchasing. I will pay it off every month so as to not incur monthly interest on my purchases. The snag is, I am 18. I have never had a credit card before, I live at home with my parents, I am working full time and had a current account for 2 years. This leads to the problem that most of the cards I am looking at wont accept me. Can any one direct me to a card or a site that would show me the best cards I can get for purchases only.
PS Free Fraud protection included would be very helpful

ask your bank... they will know how you handle your current a/c0

Have you applied for some already? There is a problem that each application leaves a mark on your credit record. Perhaps, if you can, wait a month or two then apply through the bank where you have your current account. Won't be the best deal, but not the worst either.0 -
I have not applied for the cards. I have just looked at the requirements of the card and seen that I do not qualify. But thanks both of you for the quick replies. Ill go and have a chat to my bank0

What about an Egg money card? you can put money onto the card to make it a possitive balance as well as going into a negative balance - You also get 1% cashback on all purchases (up to £200 per years). Egg are normally quite easy to get aswell.
Your purchases are protected on all credit cards so you dont need to worry about fraud protection.0 -
mbna are now doing a creditbuilder card, it seems a lot of poeple who get refused for other cards are getting approved for this. i applied as did several other people on the sub prime board and got declined for the one i applied for 'classic mastercard' but asked to phone them - when i did i was told i could have a visa with £500 limit but would need to pay a deposit of £100 - retunable on good handling of account.
could be a way forward for you0 -

Pretty much what everyone else has said, really - go to your bank..they're normally the best chance you've got of getting on the credit ladder and it should help that you have a steady income (that, presumably, they can see)...Really, the only difference you'll get paying the thing off each month is any cashback deal, points, that kinda thing that the particular bank might offer...most of these won't add up to a huge amount of money that quickly, so get your bank to give you a CC, make sure you use it every month for the next six months and clear it in full...then, in six months, read martins CC articles and see what cards are the best for spending at the time...apply for the best one, if you don't get it, wait another few months then do the same thing...and so on.0

Thanks all for the replies. I went my current account bank (Llyods TSB). And they said they could get me one but it would be a long process due to me still having an Under-19 current account. So i figuered I might just leave the credit cards alone at the moment and just used my Visa Debit and Paypal for my big online transactions.0

Can't do any harm to get the credit file kick started in the mean time. A few easy things like going on the electoral register helps (if you're not already)...Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0
