Accommodation

Wasn't sure where best to post this but hope somebody can help...

I am about to go into my 3rd year of university and have two options for living arrangements and am struggling to decide which is going to be financially best.

Option 1: Live separately from my partner and pay £756 in rent between us per month. This includes internet, television license, basic contents insurance, water, electricity and furnishings but washing facilities are extra and there is no parking available.

Option 2: Live together in a 1 bedroomed apartment with en-suite and bathroom and pay £525 per month between us. This includes an allocated secure parking space, fully fitted kitchen (inc washer and dryer) and furnishings but excludes all bills, television license, internet, insurance etc.

Really unsure which option is best as I'm not sure how much it would cost to run a 1 bed apartment.

Also, we are both students so I THINK we would be exempt from council tax?

Any advice would be brilliant. :o

  • Both have advantages and disadvantages.
With the second option, you gain a parking space but lose an extra room - something that you don't realise you have until you've lost it.
Not exactly sure of monthly repayments, but gas and electric is going over £1000 per year, plus TV licence is £140pa, internet and phone line lowest at around £250pa. Water and insurance I'm not sure, but add a minimum £50 per month(someone will correct me here...).
So at least £165 on other bills, which brings you to £690 minimum.
And yes you are exempt from council tax.

Add to this the stress of moving.....
