Just wanted to say i am in a similar position, I am going to be without Broadband for 3 weeks until BT can come and sort it out! £126, £50 refundable deposit, and no internet for 3 weeks!
Not a happy bunny!!

The only people i aware of that dont have a long contract for line rental is the Post Office Homephone, they will charge you a connection fee of £110 if appropriate.(They do have a minimum term of 12 months for their broadband),so its best to use an alternative no minimum term broadband supplier.

Hi, I am in a similar position - BT wanted a 12 month minimum contract and ongoing 12 months after that, so if I stay here 6 months I pay for 12, if I stay here 13 months I pay for 24, etc...
So I went for PostOffice homephone (no minimum contract) and for broadband I went for Bethere (3 months notice). Also £40 Quidco cashback on bethere and £9.25 on homephone = £49.25 and free connection to bethere via the referals board (saving £24) The only other broadband provider I found with good reviews/ratings and no 12 month minimum contract was zen (zen.co.uk) who only need 1 months notice.
Only thing is it's 2 weeks for homephone to connect me whereas BT was 2 days - so will be without phone and broadband for 3 weeks (moved in a week ago)."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
