  • No excuses at this point Edilass would love to meet up over the festive season. I have visitors some of the time and at the moment trying to book pantos etc. Hopefully they may just be interested in saving cash!! Well lets face it who isn't. I have it on good authority you are a gracious and fun host. It would be nice to be able to put faces to names.
  • I have just noticed that Jimmy Chungs will be open during the festive period.

    Walks!
You could walk the old A1 which is now the A199. It has a path from Musselburgh to Haddington but I think it will be longer than 5-7 mile. You could take the car to Tranent or Gladsmuir (which would take you uphill) and walk to Haddington from there. On a clear day views to the south of the lammermuirs,to the north over the Firth of Forth to Fife and beyond and to the West views of the Pentlands,Edinburgh and the Forth Bridges.(You could get a bus back if need be!)

There is a railway walk from Longniddry to Haddington but can get muddy.(no direct buses back!)

Dalkeith Country park is nice for a walk but again can be muddy although there is a path you can choose to stick to.

There is a pathway up the east? side of the River Esk from Musselburgh town centre for about 3 miles to Whitecraig. You can also access this path if you travel from the lodge into Musselburgh and at the first mini roundabout take the 3 o'clock turn of into Fairways?(housing area)drive to the bottom of that road and there is a path and a bridge across the Esk.

There is also a walk from Musselburgh to Dunbar along the coast (MUCH longer than 7 miles) called the John Muir Way.

Tourist information may be able to give better details of distances etc. 0131 653 6172)

    Eating!

I have not eaten any Christmas meals in these places but I have eaten in them and would recommend them.

    Bonars Restaurant,Haddington (01620 822100) delicious food...can be pricey

    Longniddry Inn,Longniddry (01875 852401) can be very busy..best booked!

The Old Clubhouse,Gullane(01620 842008) can be busy, good friendly atmosphere..serves food all day.

The Golf Inn,Gullane (01620 843259) its a while since I have been but again good food.

The Garval Inn, Garvald (01620 830311) very small.

The Dragon Way,(Chinese)Port Seton (01875 819888) does 3 course meal for £10 Sunday-Thursday but might not be on over the festive season!

The Hayweights Lounge,Musselburgh have only had a sandwich at lunchtime but was good. There is also a Chinese restaurant in North High Street,Musselburgh on North side of street but cant remember the name only been once but was good. Lucas Icecream Shop,High Street,Mussslburgh is also good for a snack!

Also recommended but I have yet to go myself is

    Lanna Cafe and Thai Restaurant,Bridge Street,Musselburgh (0131 653 2788)

    Bankok Thai Restaurant,Gullane (01620 842233) small...best booked!

I am sure most of these establishments will be open over Christmas and New Year. I have included their tel.nos. If you wished to contact them about availability..prices etc.

Hope you have fun...if I can think of anywhere else I will let you know!
