MSE visitors to Edinburgh over Festive Season

Having read the Travel Lodge £10 deal over the Festive Season I see a number of MSE users have managed to book for one of the Edinburgh Travel Lodges.

Any queries you may have about eating or what to do over the Festive Season please post here and the very helpful Edinburgh/Scotland users will see what we can find out for you.

Allexie I know is looking for Christmas Lunch. When we were in Jimmy Chungs with the Pink family last week I read their Christmas Menu, chinese buffet style eat all you want and I did happen to notice that they had turkey on the menu icon7.gif

If there is any interest in meeting up I am quite happy to organise a drink one evening or a coffee of a morning icon12.gif

Aww thanks EdLass....that's a very kind thought!

Can anyone tell me if there will be much open on Boxing Day (shops/touristy things??) We love to just trundle about the streets of Edinburgh, (been a couple of times already), but it is nice to be able to pop in places for coffee/drinks/snacks etc.

Also, any nice country walks within easy reach from Edinburgh? Say about 5-7 miles length, preferably with no whopping great hills! Will have car to get to start.

Still looking for Christmas Day lunch somewhere... nice hotel praps?

When are other people going to be there? 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th Dec for me.

  • Most of the shops will be open on Boxing Day, sales will be starting then ;)

The Zoo is open on Christmas Day and you can get lunch there in the Mansion House but I can't see if it is fully booked from the website, might be worth a phone call. We have been to the Zoo on Christmas Day and its a really nice way to spend early afternoon before going home for Christmas Dinner.

Is it the city centre Travel Lodge you are staying in? There is always Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat to climb near at hand and if you are at Dreghorn TL you are handy for the Pentland Hills.

It's the Musselburgh TL we are staying at. The zoo idea sounds great...never would have thought of it being open on Chrissie Day!! Sales on Boxing Day...were nearly sorted!!! :j Have done Arthur's Seat already so will investigate Holyrood Park.

    Thanks EdLass icon7.gif

  • Ah well if its Musselburgh TL and you have a car, head down the coast a bit to Dirleton or North Berwick for nice walks or head along Portobello beach.

If you have "done" Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Park is the flat bit round it so you will have done that too probably icon7.gif

Can't help with other suggestions in that area for Christmas Day lunch but I know there are other MSE'rs from that direction who will be able to help icon10.gif
  • I think that quite a few of the shops on Prince's street are open on Boxing Day

Edinburgh thrives on its New Year celebrations. There will be no problem eating out or doing any touristy things on 3 Jan. http://www.edinburghshogmanay.org/ have a look at this website for ideas.

    Have a great time.
  • While some restaurants and tourist places might be closed on 1 January they will certainly all be open on 2 January and 3 January. Only the Banks and offices etc will still be closed on 3 January.

It used to be that everything closed on 1 January but since the Street Party celebrations got so big more and more restaurants are opening to take the tourist's money icon12.gif

oops sorry cool, cross posted icon11.gif
