Downloading PDF files

Ive tried numerous times to download a pdf file form the internet but it keeps on saying "the adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit adobe acrobat/reader and exit your web browser and exit again"

and ive tried that and it doesn't work, ive uninstalled anything adobe and reinstalled it to the latest update which i think is adobe 9(ive doen this by going to adobe's website)

I can save the file to my desktop but i cant edit it, am i missing something

can anyone help

Yes you are missing the bit that says reader. You can't edit pdf files with adobe acrobat/reader.

Which browser are you using? It could well be something to do with the browser's preferences/settings.

You won't really be able to edit pdf files unless you open them up in the application that the document was originally created in, e.g. Adobe Illustrator. Acrobat has some very limited editing capability, and Adobe Reader (the freebie version of Acrobat) has pretty well none.

firefox 3, ok so which adobe product do i need to be able to edit it, ive found some alternatives which i thought would work but i cant see where to edit the product in both alternatives,

ps the 2 i found are foxit reader and PDF escape

Pdf files aren't typically designed to be edited. They're more usually used for proofing or read-only purposes.

If you want to edit one fully, your best bet is to find out which bit of software originally created the source document, and see if that will open the pdf file.

Its just that theres an application form on a site that id like to fill in and it seems i cant as its in pdf format, could print it if off i guess, cheers for your help NickMidgley

The pdf form may be protected anyway. Just print it out and fill it in using a pen.

There is a way of filling in pdf forms with the full version of Acrobat (i.e the one you need to pay for). I've only tried it once and it was a bit tricky and the results weren't 100% fantastic.

I agree, your best bet's probably to print it off and use a good old biro.

I receive my payclaym forms in PDF format from one of the agencies I work for, and I just print them off and fill them in and scan them back in. Best way really.

However I noticed that whenever I open a PDF form, then the computer goes a bit slower, as if something were still running in the background holding things up. It's only a minor irritation though, so I haven't looked into it properly yet.
