Firefox and AVG 8 issues - virus?

Hi,
I'm having issues with Firefox 3 and AVG 8. I think maybe I could have a virus that is affecting the two programs but I'm not sure.
The first problem is that automated anti virus update feature for AVG 8 keeps disabling itself after I restart the computer. I keep changing it to auto update but it keeps reverting back so I have to do a manual update.
The second issue I have is with bookmarks and rss feeds in Firefox. When I go to any web page ALL the links in my bookmarks and rss feeds are set to the URL of the page I'm currently viewing.
I have done an anti-virus/anti-spyware/adware scan and nothing has come up. Has anyone heard of these issues before? I've had a look and round for solutions but can't find anything.
Thanks in advance
