2 bedroom flat, MASSIVE bills, advise please??
i live in a 2 bedroom flat alone, work a lot so am not there a lot of the time, all electric and have all the normal appliances and with npower.
i have recently got my electricity bill and it has said that i owe over £1000 for 3 months usage... which I think is waay too much considering the circumstances... especially without heating, electric boiler is on a timer and only on for 1 hour during the day, i turn all the appliances off when not required etc etc
is this is a ridiculous amount or am i doing something wrong?????

It's a ridiculous amount for a quarter but ... is it a meter reading or an estimate? Have your previous bills been estimates and, if so, have you supplied meter readings? In other words, could you have been paying underestimated bills for some time that have now caught up with you?
Or ... wrong meter? Do serial numbers match? Faulty immersion heater (this occurs to me because it happened to me recently but I'm not sure how common it is)?0 -
Check the 'end' reading on your bill against what the meter says now, current reading should be slightly higher. Check how much has been used between reading date on bill (assuming its an actual read) and the date you read it now. That will give you a weeks/months whatever useage figure, scale that up to a year and see what the result is average useage is around 4,300 (I think, see other threads).IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

In isolation a £1,000 bill for a two bedroom flat which is hardly occupied seems extortionate - our last quarter bill was about £47.
Either you have been underpaying on estimates so have a debt.
Something which eats power is constantly on - water heater would be favourite.
Your meter is providing power for something else.0 -
I live in a 3 bedroom flat and only have electricity and no gas, my bill is £200 per quarter if that.
I hardly ever put the heating on and when I do, I have those oil filled radiators which heat up and then when hot I turn them off so they still emit heat.
I pay my bill continually by standing order and pay £26 a month. Change your provider to Scottish Power as they seem to be the cheapest.0 -
I've just took readings for our 2 bed flat, we used 45kWh of gas in the last 83 days, and 1673kWh of elec (I work at home so the computer is on at least 8 hours a day), we pay £66/month by direct debit and are £11 in credit. We are with scottish power online 4 tarrif
I turn everything off at the switch including the freeview box, oven and computer. I got a plug-in electricity usage reader and found that most of the electronic devices used some electricity even when off (not even in standby), the computer was the worst culprit. Turning off at the socket has saved nearly 30kWh on the last quarter
Gas wise, we have the water on for 10 mins a day, and I cook 1 hot meal a day most days, which is why our usage is low during the summer.0 -

Do you mean £200 per year?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
