Atlantic now trying to retain consumers

We applied for Scottish power cap before it was pulled, but it was a close run thing with Atlantic ; around £220 extra and fix only for one year. We dithered a lot!

Atlantic have obviously had the call from Scottish today as we received PR call from Atlantic this morning.

Now offering us fixed rate tarrif (guaranteed NOT more expensive than the internet discount we were on) with additional negotiable percentages off this. Fixed rate locked till Sept.2010. £25 fee if we come off before. DH took the call unfortunately so am waiting for their written confirmation of the figures (frustratingly  ) but it looks like a cap by any other name and DH additionally negotiated an extra 3%. Still retain their customer loyalty bonus of £60 each gas/electric.

Sorry, will post figures when we receive their confirmation but looks like they are worried and making offers if you take it to the line:D

Be very careful as this sounds similar to the "fixed discount 2010" offered by Southern Electric (another Scottish and Southern company). This is not a fixed/capped tariff but merely a 2% discount off their standard tariff until 2010.This means that if the tariff rises so will your costs, but will be 2% lower all the time until 2010.
I did not know Atlantic was offering this tariff as there is no mention on the website, but as they are owned by the same company it would not surprise me.
Also I do not think Atlantic would offer you a deal just for you, they will only offer their advertised products.
So check the paperwork very carefully.
  • Thanks for that. Yes we did realise that ; but this is probably good for us as there is such a big price hike for us to the short Scottish fix that was available. At £25 to get out it gives us a better option than just 'riding it out' and Atlantic are pretty good at 'last to rise prices' and reasonably good at lowering quickly. We were surprised at the offer, as you say its not advertised on the website, so thought anyone in a similar 'close call' to us might find it useful to know.

    Hi all
also had a call yesterday from Atlantic asking me if i realised what a price hike it was to switch to SP - Atlantic say that their gas prices are due to go up soon but ? when - but would have to rise by 65% to cost same as SP ??

The guy is calling me back today at 3.30 to see if i want to switch back but will be unable to give me my loyalty bonus of £110 which was due in Nov - he did agree to give me £40 though as a sweetner!
no mention of fixed or cut price tariff though

in same boat as OP - my rise will be substantial to cap for a year with SP but i spose we'll get the Quidco £62

Atlantic also said that it wouldn't cost to cancel SP as they are not supplying me yet

    any advice??

They rang back - offered £40 as a % of my loyalty bonus and said they have an online fixed discount deal which is 4% off plus a further 2% off for paying by d/d so total of 6% discount for each fuel

won't play ball with my loyalty bonus
    but now i'm confused
however if this is a new deal can it be better than the SP cap that is no longer available???

    Help me someone :o
