Securing newly repaired 64bit Vista HomPrem Desktop PC.....

Options
Hi folks,

Just fixed my desktop PC having being relying on my laptop for the past few months!!! It was the PSU that failed so a fairly simple fix in the end. Due to a security breach on my laptop over the past 2 weeks I am now being extra careful with security stuff now and wish to know what security software I should run on my fixed desktop.

I am running Vista 64bit Home Premium on an Intel E2160 with 8500GT and 4GB. I have also installed office 2007 and Norton 360 with Windows Defender (part of Vista?).

I am, proposing to additionally install the following ....
(1) AdAware (2) CCleaner (3) Rootkit Revealer (4)

I am unsure aboiut the following
(1) the spyware stuff that comes with google pack [I heard it is good but does it interfere with Norton or not run that smoothly as it seems to pop up messages everytime the registry changes.]
(2) Spyware Blaster
(3) SpyBot

These 3 I am unsure about as they are not simple run once out of the way applications as I wish really only to run Norton in the background only rather than 2 or 3 things that hog system resources.

Also I am thinking of making my system dual boot so I can have a play with a Ubuntu Linux Distro like Mint 5.0?? .... Need something simple and a good easy guide as I am completely new to Linux.

Any other good security tips for Vista 64 users are welcome. I have turned off remote assistance for now.

Thanks Jools

Honestly, that's overkill and will limit the PCs speed as most will suck up it's resources.

AVG, Windows defender, windows firewall and common sense is plenty... main one being common sense. Always check everything you download for what it installs, never install free stuff unless it comes highly recommended (google is your friend) and you'll be fine.
