Peugoet 405 turboD rev counter.
I have a 1995 Peugeot 405 turbo-D estate. The rev counter has developed a fault. On starting from cold it works normally for about five minutes and then sinks smoothly to zero and stays there until the engine is again started from cold, warm starts do not reactivate it. This has been repeated consistently for the past two weeks. Anyone got any ideas?
I can happily live without the rev counter and nothing else seems to be affected but if there's a simple solution or checks I could make it would be helpful. Thanks.

i would undo the battery for 1 hour and reconnect it (make sure you have the radio code)
if that fails take the clocks out and check the connection on the back, sounds like it is a electric heat issue
out of interest what is the mileage on the 4050 -

Thanks. Don't want to get into anything too time consuming but will try the battery disconnect. I thought it might be a heat problem as well.0 -
More likely to be the sensor that it connects to from the crankshaft, that it fails when warm is a telling sign. Cheap and easy to replace.
By the way, its called a tachometer, not a rev counter

I know that, just thought I'd use an expression that everyone would understand;) .
The sensor sounds a good bet.:beer:0 -
if it is that end it might just need cleaning up a bit, if its the tacho end it might just beed re seating / soldering

No, With a car this old it might not last long enough to recover the cost of converting to chip fat:rolleyes: . I get 55mpg as it is.0
