Would someone be so kind as to explain the difference between a PVR and a DVD recorder please?

A PVR records onto a built-in hard drive (like a PC). (SkyPlus is a PVR for example)
A DVD records onto DVDs (naturally).
You can also buy some which are a combination of the two.
The main benefit of a PVR is that you don't need to keep switching disks, and they will always include "timeslip" ("pausing" live TV). However, once the hard drive is full you will need to start deleting stuff.
DVD players are IMHO better. There are several different formats (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RAM). If it has DVD-RAM then you can usually do the nifty timeslip thing I previously mentioned. You will never run out of space with a DVD recorder, as you just keep buying more disks.
Hope this helps!
