Bailiffs letter but NOT my debt!!!

I returned from Lego land with my children yesterday to a letter through the door from a bailiff(rossendales, if it makes any difference?) which had 4 copies of the same letter for four parking fines which appear to be unpaid. All have fees attached to each letter and they now total about £800
The trouble is they are for my ex partner who hasnt lived at this address for 6months and even though only stayed here now and then but registered his vehicle at my address when he bought it as this was his main address at the time.
I know he lives in Manchester now but I dont know where, also I dont know if the car is still registered at my address and dont know how to find out.
The bailiffs are due back tomorrrow, what can I do??? Do I open the door and explain this as from what it seems this is giving them right to entry or do i ring them or what??
Im at my wits end as have worked hard to buy bits and bobs since being single and cant bear them being taken away for a debt which isnt mine.

Personally i would ring them tomorrow to explain that your ex no longer lives there and hasn't done so for 6 months. Inform them that you will be sending them a letter stating this also.

I would not open your door to them - just speak to them through the letter box.

I haven't come across this scenario before, but do not think you should allow them into the house for any reason - even if they say they just want to make sure then will change their records - don't do it.

I would try either PM'ing herbie21 or possibly trying to get in touch with https://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk who may be able to advise.

In this particular case, if you are ever in contact with your ex, he will need to file an Out of Time late Stat Dec on the ground that he did not receive either the PCN (possibly) or more likely, the Notice to Owner. If succesful, (and I have no reason to think why not) this will CANCEL all enforcement and the bailiff fees will be gone as well.

Turning to your situation, you MUST send a letter by registered mail to Rossendales and I would also e-mail them on info@rossendales.com and explain what you have said here and ask for confirmation that they have received your letter.

A copy of the letter can be left for the bailiff. What he will be wanting to do is to clamp the vehicle with the registration number on the Warrant of Execution. This is your ex's car. He CANNOT take anything belonging to you.

Any problems, please let me know.

Hi Herbie I was hoping you'd see this one, how do I post an out of time stat dec and who do I do that to? Is it Rossendales? I could contact my ex's mum for her to tell him to do this but itl take a few days to get ib touch with him via her and im worried they return in the meantime.
They will be back tomorrow or the next day, do I show them the proof of posting a letter to themselves or just not have any form of contact with them until such time as I receive a reply back from them.
He owed me £8000 before he left for a loan he didnt pay so signed the car on the warrant over to me in lieu of this debt, will this matter or will they check I am the registered keeper and leave it at that? Or shall I park it elsewhere til its over. Its a nightmare this mind, but Im ever so grateful for your help.
Just going to email Rossendales now then I will write to them in and post today.

Just to reinforce what has, already, been said - if they do come back, today, do NOT let them enter the house. Keep ALL doors and windows shut (locked) and ONLY talk to them through the letterbox.
Tell them that the person they are looking for does NOT live here and that the said person does not own anything in the house.
Tell them that you have no way of getting in contact with the person they are looking for.
IF they 'force' their way into the house, call the Police.

As rossendales do not have a reputation for 'checking before they act' I would suggest that you do, if possible, park the car elsewhere, for the moment - ideally in a locked garage/garden on private property.
Do this especially if the car is the same as the one for which the 'parking fines' relate.

Thanks everyone, i have just popped out and posted a letter to them recorded delivery and have emailed the same one. I have sent an email to his mums email address in the hope she will be in touch with him to advise him what to do.
I wont open the door to them as advised and will keep all doors and windows locked, had keys cut for the back gate for my children who will want to play out, that will be the hard part!!! I work from home so will be past myself but will sit it out.
Thanks again.

hi, hope you are holding out ok. I had a letter from Rossendales last week saying they would be back the following day to seize my goods. It was one of the most stressful days of my life I think!! Everytime a van rolled down the street I was up at the window to see if it was them! Next door were having various bits of furniture delivered so loads of vans pulled up outside. Plus the Jehovah's Witnesses knocked at the door!! I think I was quite rude to them actually. Just try to keep yourself busy would be my advice! And as everyone else has said don't let them in!!! Good luck!

Hi

They cannot just turn up and take your belongings, even if it is your debt.

What is important however is that you do not let them in the house, even if they try things like "wanting to phone the office to tell them it is OK."

If they gain peaceful entry, they have the right to try and make a walking possession order - list things in the house - and the right to come back in in the future.

As long as you do not let them inthe first time, you will be OK.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Hi minxstress

There really is no need to 'worry yourself sick'. I know, from personal experience, that it is, indeed, worrying - not knowing when, or indeed if, these 'people' will turn up.
Just don't let yourself be bullied - have a read of the following link, which, in conjunction with the advice already given by herbie, should go some way to setting your mind at rest.

Good luck.
