wireless connection won't work properly

Options
Hiya Guys,

For the past few months I've been using this wireless usb lan adaptor to get online wirelessly. This morning when I tried to log on it wouldn't connect, but I had to go out, so I left it for a few hours and tried again. Now when I try to connect wirelessly it connects to tiscali then immediately disconnects and reconnects then disconnects and so on.

I've been on the phone to tiscali support and they have decided that the adaptor must be at fault, but surely if the adaptor was faulty it wouldn't connect in the first place? I've downloaded the latest drivers from the edimax website, but it hasn't helped.

I can still connect through the ethernet cable, but it's a nuisance!

Any ideas?

No, I don't know how to do that! The edimax says it should be on channel 11, how do I check the router is the same?

    its a siemens gigiset se587.

It only connects for a couple of seconds then disconnects straightaway. A couple of seconds after that it reconnects, then disconnects again and keeps on like that. I can't get online inbetween.

I've had Tiscali BB for years and the last 3 days I've been having exactly same problem as OP. Signal strength varying between very low and excellent - nothing I do changes things but sometimes, like now, no problem

try reinputting your encryption key, assuming it is encrypted.

    wireless
    channel dropdown

may have to do it wired, or from another pc.

choose something well away from the neighbours, 1 6 or 11, channels in between interfere with each other

ok, tried reinputting the encryption key and checking the channels, neighbours was channel 1 so tried 6 then went back to 11. Nothing made any difference. I'm so lost!

No the Edimax Wireless Utility does the wireless, its a wpa key. I've double chacked and it matches.

I had a problem like this, go into your router settings and change the wireless frequency channel to something different.

    try letting windows manage it

control panel, networks, wireless, properties, wireless networks, tick use windows to configure my wireless settings.

That didn't work either. It showed that I was connected, but as soon as I unplugged the etherent cable I got 'internet explorer can't display the webpage' but in the system tray it showed I was connected.
