Credit Reports.

Just a quick note to give some moneysavers hope. I was declined 3 cards this summer for no apparent reason. I should have got my credit report after the first but panicked and tried 2 others. Then real fear kicked in, its not like i needed the cards for anything other than a 0% coming to an end. But its the fact that all of a sudden i was being declined, I thought of all the things it could affect and really worried. So i signed up to the Experian free trial and got my report, there was nothing obvious on there so I rang Experian and asked them what they thought, the (very nice) man said that there were 2 accounts that had high credit limits that were not in use, and apart from that nothing that he could see either. We decided that i just wasnt worth having as a customer. So I cancelled the 2 accounts and the Experian free trial and then rang Lloyds TSB and asked them why I had been declined. 10 mins later I had a card with a £9000 limit on it and have just been accepted for a Tesco Finest card (seen what everyone else does with the clubcard points!). It is well worth looking at your credit report and then going back to the companies that declined you to find out why.

Just got my first credit card refusal via Lloyds TSB. I have never had dealings with them but I have been accused of having loan accounts, with them, in the past, by a debt collection agency I can name. These accusations were probably an unethical money grabbing excercise familiar to many on this site but ignored the authorities who could stop this behaviour.
I am trying the Experian route. The division of Lloyds TSB in question are Premier Credit. The person I spoke to was very helpful and supportive. They suggested that I should send them my Experian credit file. Given that they must have this already I am dubious of this step but I will comply if it is in my interest.

Just be aware that there are things on your credit report that the lenders cannot see when they carry out their normal searches. These would include 'unrecorded enquiries', 'quotation searches', and possibly other items.
