i just went onto their website and applied for xmas temporary staff jobs in essex and told them what store I would like to work in. Have to fill out a massive questionnaire though!!!!

hey bashful, im really sorry but could you point me to the job section more clearly at all because I really can't find anything!
  • I don't think you'll get paid 'a fair bit' to work it - I reckon they take on xmas staff to work cheap while the permanent staff - who could command overtime rates - get to stay home!

I applied for a few xmas jobs a couple of years ago and was surprised just how tough the applications and interviews were for what I thought was a tatty little job lasting a few months! They seemed to prefer people who were actually looking for permanent work, rather than just xmas work.

This is genuinely meant as advice, but if the company feel that you view the job as a 'tatty little job', then you are unlikely to get on

    Good point!!! :rotfl:

I don't think I actually gave the companies the impression that was how I felt, however, I was just expressing my surprise on here as I thought the information about working unsocial hours over xmas might be relevant to someone.
  • I went for an interview at Evans yesterday for a Christmas temp job and it was just like a normal retail interview. I think shops get a lot of their staff from Christmas temps anyway, so it's a good opportunity to get your foot in the door.

Just be really enthusiastic about it, even if you're not!
£100 for Christmas challenge: £3/£100 so far! :o

My son went for a christmas job at Toys R Us recently. It turned out to be a group interview of 12 candidates. Then he had to have a maths and english test and then had to demonstrate selling a product. He has 10 good GCSE's but still had to do the tests.
Seems a bit over the top to me! But fingers crossed for him.

I've just started a Xmas temp job for a greetings card shop, they pay minimum wage but hey, for what I have to do (till work) I couldn't exactly command any more than that! It's good fun as well, the other staff are great and lovely and we're really busy. A job can often be what you make it!
