Direct Debit Keeps Climbing....

I know there have been price rises but Atlantic are seeming to want to put my d/d up every few months now.

It was £25, then £46 and now I log onto my internet banking to see that tomorrow they're trying to take £68. Firstly they haven't notified me of any changes which is wrong but secondly I dispute I should be paying anything like that amount.

It's a well insulated 2 bed mid-terraced house and though I have a gas cooker and central heating, apart from heating water it's not been on for just about 4 months!

According to them they have read the meter and when I check online Atlantic come out as just about the cheapest supplier so I'm confused as to what's going on.

Any ideas what I should do?

Have you read the meter? Do your meter readings concur with theirs?

Have some of your bills been calculated on estimated readings that have been lower the actual ones?
  • We had the same with Atlantic, the DD's started low and then they kept putting them up and up, as they seemed to have estimated our use at a lower rate than we were actually using, so they kept putting the DD's amounts up.

Although we probably use less now (trying to economise).

We have just moved from Atlantic and gone to a fixed tariff with Southern.

I think you will find that Southern do not have a fixed tariff.

Our D/Ds also started at a low rate, but it is the responsibility of the householders to check whether the amount being paid is enough to cover the actual usage as the costs of fuel keep rising if they don't want a shock.
I've checked our account each time there's a price rise, then phoned Atlantic and asked them to increase the monthly payments in order to cover the costs that I'm incurring. So, hopefully, we'll not build up a huge debt over the coming winter :D. It's simple enough to do.....

Southern Fixed Discount Tariiff is badly described, it is actually a Tracker Tariff that follows rate of their standard energy online tariff and gives you 2% off.Their are also leaving penalties.
