Student nurse bursary and Tax Credits?

My Wife has finally received her first Student Nurse Bursay payment. It is a means tested grant and we had to disclose all our income details and tax credit payment details.

Will we have to declare these bursary payments to the tax credit people? Or is the fact that the tax credits have already been taken into account enough?

I suspect that we will have to declare the bursary and then the tax credits will be reduced by the amount of grant we are receiving.

Please make my day and tell me that my suspicions are wrong!

Thanks

Steven

Didn't you post this question before?

On the other thread you got a definitive answer to the question which was no, you do not have to declare it in relation to claim for tax credits.
  • In answer to your question, This information is taken from the pdf file inland revenue guide to tax credits, working families and child tax credit.

"We don’t take student loans or grants to meet the cost of tuition
fees, childcare, or the Parent’s Learning Allowance into account.
But you should tell us if you receive a Dependant’s Grant for a
spouse or unmarried partner or a dependent adult.
If you are a student nurse or a health profession trainee and you
receive a bursary under the NHS Bursary Scheme, you do not
need to tell us about these payments in your claim.
After you have finished your studies and start work, repayments
of student loans are not deductible from income in tax
    credit claims."

If only the DWP would adopt the same attitude then those with disabled children and partners who can't work to suppliment their income or even provide one, could go to university.
