Scart socket in video

I have been trying to connect my video to the TV. The video has two scart sockets. Does anybody know which one I should insert the scart lead, it's AV1 21 pin scart socket and AV2 21 pin scart socket. It's just I can play recorded video but when I record, the pictures come all fuzzy. I have inserted the scart lead in AV2 and I do not know whether that makes any difference. Thanks

When you record on a VCR in a basic, simple television setup, it usually works via your RF signal (the round plug from your television aerial). Where the plug comes out of the wall, it would normally go straight into your television. Instead, you should plug it into the videos input plug, then use another RF lead to connect from the video to the television.

TO answer your question, I think you need to plug it into the AV1 plug as the AV2 might be an input from another device, however I'm not sure as all VCR's are different. (This is how the one here works anyway)

BTW, if you get a blurry signal from your RF Aerial, you probably need to move your aerial so it points to your television transmitter. (Sometimes they move in the wind)

You can also add a satellite TV/Freeview TV box to your VCR/TV setup and record off of the satellite or Freeview box, but this involves extra work...
  • Dodgy Scart leads can cause picture problems too so check them by wiggling them a bit (!!) and see if the picture changes.

It shouldn't really matter which one you use.

put a video cassette in, press play and then plug the scart cable into the video. If nothing comes on plug it in the other one.

Thanks for all your help. When I connect the scart lead to AV1, the cassette plays OK but the recording are fuzzy. On AV2, it plays and records OK, I do not have to press play, it does it automatically. I guess if it does not matter which one I use, I need not worry about it. It's just recently I had two power cut and my downstairs video went dead and had to replace it with my bedroom one. Thanks again for all your help.
