Tracking down a personalised number plate

There's a particular number plate I want to buy, which is apparently not available. However, searching at www.glass.co.uk it doesn't appear to be in use on a vehicle.

Perhaps it has been written-off? Or could it be being 'held' by somebody?

Is there anyway to trace it?

hmm, second thoughts I tried on a car insurance site it's apparently on a Nissan X-Trail 2003-2005. Presumably being 'cherished' by its owner. (It's a Y-plate). I guess it's not possible to find out the owner's name....

I thought it was only the police who could a drivers details. Its not really ethical for the DVLA to be handing out drivers names/addresses based on a number plate. Wanting to buy the plate is not really a valid reason.

no that's what I thought. I did a search on RAC (£5), and it says the plate was only transferred in February. I guess they are unlikely to sell.

The plate is

Y4RTY

my wife's name is
YARTI

(but you can't have an 'I' in a number plate)

That would be the one to go for then.

Bear in mind for your number plates to be legal it could only be displayed as

Y4 RTE

i know making a plate out to be something different is illeagal,but its amazing the amount of drivers you see with illegal plates and the police obviously dont bother with them

Anyone can have the keepers details. Send a chq for five quid to the DVLA Information From Records with the reg number. They will send you your check back and a load of paperwork to fill in wanting your inside leg measurement, then bundle it all back off to them...

But I'll bet the average joe won't be able to get hold of these details. Would love to track down the address of the person who keeps messing with my car then driving off in his car. Something might then happen to his car outside his house and he can see how he likes it :A £5 seems like a bargain for a bit of revenge considering how much it would cost me to get a panel beater to straighten out the damage caused.

(I would move my car and park elsewhere but the brakes and an exhaust hanger need sorting out first).

One of the reasons you can give on the form is you need to issue a parking ticket as they were parked on your land without your permission.
