Going to Bruges in September for 3 nights. Can anyone recommend where to eat? We will be on a budget so don't want to spend too much. Luckily the hotel we are staying in gives us breakfast so its just lunch / dinner we need to worry about!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi
There are a lot of small cafes off the main square. Don't eat in the main square as the food is either not very good or expensive.
Here are some restarants with reviews

there's a small restaurant called the Chick - Inn near the centre that specialises in roti chicken. clean, well-run bt 2 old guys and reasonably priced.
truth is bruges can be expensive, so don't eat/drink on the main square.
there are some good bars on katerinastraat and hoogstraat with lower prices.
with the exchange rate as it is, it's difficult to find anywhere that's dirt cheap unless you buy booze/food from a supermarkt and consume on a park bench.
that said, bruges is great destination. I've been a dozen times and never get bored with the place.
a pleasant trip.miladdo0 -
The owner of our hotel suggested Toms Diner last year and it was great, good value home cooked food. Don't let the name put you off! It's a ten minute stroll from the Market Square but you do have to book as it's very popular. We'll definitely go back next year, actually we can't wait!

Yes, I've eaten at Tom's as well, It was a long time ago and I'd forgotten the name, yet remembered that it was really unprepossessing.
The food wasn't. I remember that. I had Flemish beef stew. It's like Beef Bourguignon but made with beer (surprise, surprise) instead of red wine.
I like Belgian cuisine: it's French quality, in German portions. Plus chips. And beer. Then chocolate.
Oh, and make sure to get some mussels and "French" fries with mayonnaise, of course, from the stand in front of the clock tower. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

The Grand Cafe is a must! Great food, huge helpings and friendly staff. I'm sure I remember it was very reasonable too:

Go there the first night and I bet you'll go back to sample the other dishes.
MissesH and I stayed in Bruges a year or two ago. We ate in the main square the first night - it was ok - then we found the Grand Cafe and ate there the next 2 nights. The Flemish stew was great.
Bruges is full of good places to snack. Waffles, chips and chocolate (not necessarily together. There is a good sandwich place on the corner of the main square - lots of people buy there and sit in the square at lunchtime.
Have a great time."Beer. Now there's a temporary solution." Homer (Simpson)0
