Hi-Life Diner's Club finally comes to Scotland

Not sure exactly when, but some time earlier this year Hi-Life finally set up a card specially for Scotland (mainly Edinburgh & Glasgow, as I understand it).

I've had Hi-Life card in the past (Northeast Eng) and it was a terrific savings - the card paid for itself in 1 weekend break!

In fact, all the restaurants we were at said it's by far the best diner club card to have.

A membership pack consists of a full colour restaurant directory and a personlised membership card. It also includes future update magazines which are sent automatically during your membership. Only one membership is required for 2 people to obtain the discounts.

I have one of these cards for Scotland, I was not sure at the start as I thought there must be a catch, but Hi-Life are letting people try it before they buy it, by way of a 2 month free trial.

You can get the free trial by calling their free phone number 0800 458 4195 and quoting their free trial ref JT or by going to www.hi-life.co.uk/jt and signing up. They didn't take any money from me until my two months were up and I could have cancelled it by calling them up at any time during the first two months.

Once my free trial was up, I was charged £39.95 for a years membership and the 2 month free trial is not taken into account, so really you get 14 months for £39.95. I got my money back on the second night out, since then my average saving is between £20 and £25. My wife and I tend to go out 3 or 4 times a month to eat, so for my initial £39.95 membership fee, I am saving around £100 a month.

There are some really nice restaurants too and none of them have treated me any differently to other full paying customers, quite the opposite, as they obviously think you will be back time and time again. One thing I was worried about was people knowing I was using my card and not paying as much, but they don't, you simply hand over your card with your money, then the food bill is halved and off you go, with half your food money still in your pocket.
