i have both my gas and electric on prepayment meters. how much extra do i pay.

hi im with british gas and im wondering just how much do i pay extra to pay my gas and electric bills as they are both on prepayment meters. both piad with cards. how much percentage wise would i save if i had new meters fitted and paid monthly by direct debit. would it be a good saving. ive always paid this way as im a single mum with two dependant children and i worry about not being able to pay a quarterly bill. ive never been in debt for my gas and electric but as im now debt free after my marriage split up three years ago. i think i would be able to manage the payments by direct debit. dureing my marriage i didnt realise just how hard a battle i was fighting with my ex husband and his spending habits that got us into debt as everything was in my name then the debts where all left to me to pay. when he left i owed over three thousand. almost three hundred on my councill rent. so im really happy and proud that ive got myself out of this situation and no longer have debt. but now im looking at new ways to save money so that i can have some nice new things in the house and be able to afford a few luxuries like clothes for myself as ive not had any new ones for a long time as ive always put my children first.

Hi, whilst I don't know the actual difference in price, if you do go on credit meters, then do take regular readings.
Once you know your unit/kwh rate, then you can work out your weekly cost and this will help you to budget.

  • I don't know the specifics with BG but these are likely to be the type of areas where you could save - The saving on changing from pre-pay meters is usually because you then don't have a standing charge to pay and if you switch to monthly direct debit you qualify for discounts around 9% on both fuels.
