I know some groups deny membership if you don't actually write anything on the application except your name etc. To prevent auto sign ups, they like to have a few words from you saying that you want to join up to help the environment and have some items to give to a new home etc etc etc.

The list owner should tell you why they have denied membership though. Have you tried emailing them to ask?

    Agree with Ronaldo otherwise

A lot of areas also have a Realcycle group, which is exactly like Freecycle. These can also be found in Yahoo Groups.
