Garden Decking Newel Post Cracked

Hi
I've recently had a landscaper build a deck in the garden. Now I'm no expert on timber so I thought I'd leave it all in the hands of the experts. Thats what they are paid for right?
I noticed that a couple of the newel posts that have been used are cracked on the surface. They are the modern type of posts, not turned. What I wanted to ask of anyone who knows more about wood etc is, should they have been fitted cracked? Is this a problem? I've since given the posts, handrail, decking 2 coats of Ronseal decking stain, will this help waterproof the cracks from becoming bigger? I've been worried about it since I noticed it, if it's not going to get worse I can live with it, if it's a problem I'm not sure what can be done with them being supporting posts for the whole deck.
Any help would be appreciated. I suppose I'm looking for peace of mind. Thanks in advance

depends on the size, depth and position of the crack. I would say that if the crack goes no deaper than 1/4 the width of the post and no braces are attached on that section of timber it should be fine. Any pics?0
