iPhones on eBay - money laundering?

If you do a search on eBay for iPhones you notice that a few auctions run into the thousands of pounds, rather than the few hundreds that you would expect. The sellers and bidders are often new users (i.e. with no feedback).

I thought it might be some kind of money laundering wheeze. Anyone got any better ideas about these strange auctions?
