but coop told me over phone it would all be okay and definate etc but then sent a letter saying no (i think this is cos i owed them money, otherwise they are a safe br bet)..
like others say, be hopeful, but hedge your bets...!

I thought my bank account would be closed after bankruptcy but I got a letter from Narwest saying they know of my BR but have decided to let me keep my account :j I can't use cheques now but I can keep my solo card so good news here too.

Hope it all goes through for you

There is always the occasional bit of inconsistency in how the non BR friendly banks apply their policy. A small number of people seem to slip through.

The vast majority don't though. Often closing accounts even when branch/phone staff have said they will be OK.

  • I have an Abbey basic account which i have had for 3 years, I rang them to tell them of my bankruptcy and they said it was ok, I will wait and see, i don't like them and don't trust them. Will update when they write to me.

    Hi,

Just a quick update, the paperwork for the basic bank account I opened with Abbey has started to arrive. Went to a branch today and paid in £20 as well - all was OK.

Rather worrying though is that they have also sent a cheque book, which I was certainly not expecting - maybe they made a mistake. I did tell them I am BR.

ooooooh OH never had a cheque book with his basic. I did read on here the other day that with a abbey basic you choose what you want. Are you allowed cheue book when you are an undischarged bc?
