DVD recorder won't pick up Freeview

I have a TV with built in Freeview and a seperate DVD recorder.
No matter how I scan the DVD recorder it will only pick up the analogue TV channels 1 - 5. This means I can't record anything from Freeview (which will be *really* helpful when they switch the analogue signal off in the future!).
Does anyone know why this is happening or, better still, how I can fix it?
Thank you in advance

Sounds to me like the DVD recorder has just an analogue tuner.
If this is the case you will have to get it a seperate Freeview box and connect them together via a SCART cable.
Please post the make and model number of your DVD recorder so you can get more detailed info from other members.0 -
Thanks rapido but I can't see any threads on the same issue over there (and I don't want to join up just to ask one question then bail out!).
Hoping someone else on here might have an answer...0 -
i'd tend agree with electron, I think you are going to have to get a seperate freeview box for the DVD recorder.
That will give you the benifit of been able to record one freeview channel and watch a different one.0 -
Oh right - that makes sense...
I do have an old freeview box in a cupboard. How / what order would I connect them all together?
The DVD recorder is a Liteon HDA740GX0 -
Depends on lots of things!!

Old Freeview box -> DVD recorder -> TV.
(-> means an audio/video connection (such as a Scart lead) from the output of the device preceding the arrow, to the input of the device that follows.)

OK - so aeriel into old freeview box then SCARTs.....
I'll go and have a try.
If this works it's  all round!0 -

And if you want to record the analogue channels on the DVD recorder (until they switch off) then that too will need an aeriel.
So, Aerial into FV box, out of there into DVD rec, then on to TV
in each case use aerial out to feed signal on to next item.
It will still be a pain having to leave the FV box on the channel you want to record.
If you really want a fantastic recorder get a Humax HD recorder with twin tuners - it's brilliant! http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/prodCat2.asp?cat=Factory0 -
Thanks folks - you've just sorted the problem in about an hour - I'd been waiting for an email from the tech support people at the manufacturers for a fortnight...
Garetha - yes, I remembered the aerials too! I will need to remember to switch the FV box on - but at least now I *can* record from it. The DVD recorder was a present, so I'm not going to worry too much about that small chore
Thank you again you lovely MSErs :beer:0
