*** forget it, problem solved, the one connection I'd got my father in law to do when I swapped power supplies wasn't in right, a quick adjustment and we're up and running!*********
Got a refurb PC couple of weeks ago for the in laws and they've used it a couple of times then it wouldn't switch on, no power in the pc at all, no light on motherboard, no POST, nothing. First port of call was to change the power lead to rule that out then I emailed the place that sold it, they sent me a new power supply which I fitted this morning, I now have
orange light on motherboard
orange light on power switch on front of case - this only ever illuminated green when actually turned on before
and what I believe is a green hard disk light permanently on
the power supply fan is running but there doesn't appear to be any life in the hard drive and with the standby light on orange, pressing it doesn't get the pc to boot, nor does it change colour
on reflection one thing I didn't do was have the monitor connected but I was waiting for the whirrrrrring of fans, hard disk etc before connecting it
any ideas or is it a good job it came with a 3 month warranty?lol its a dell gx260 btw
thanks
