Kitchen Worktops

Options
I've just had my kitchen plan changed from a white kitchen to a high gloss black (not much of a change!!) but I'm not sure what colour/style of kitchen worktops to have. :undecided

The kitchen plan is a white floor (already bought), black units, mirror mosaic tiles as upstand with a grape/raspberry colour between the tiles and the wall cabinets. The rest of the walls white.

The colour of the worktop will determine the type of sink I have (black or s/steel) and whether I change the floor cabinet plinths from black to brushed steel.

I'm getting the kitchen from B&Q but they don't have any laminates that I like. Their silver frost looked promising but in a certain light it looked a little sandy brown.

I'm thinking of a white or stainless steel type but can't really find anything that doesn't break the bank. I'd love a white quartz but too expensive for my budget

All thoughts/ideas/links//opinions/recommendations greatly received.

  • Hi, I found this link for new granite worksurfaces.

They are real granite surfaces which fit right over your old worktops :

Heatherbell is right that Granite transformations would be cheaper than quartz composite tops ... and they can do new tops as well as fit over old worktops ... but it's still going to be quite pricey, compared to a laminate.

I like the idea of a slight beigy tone to the worktops - to mellow the starkness of black, white and raspberry. I'd still go for a steel sink and possibly steel plinths. Have a look at these:

Oh ... and there's loads of other tops to look at on this site ... if you don't like my suggestions!

You can get samples direct from Duropal - before you decide:

What about someting like a zebrano laminate? Still a nice modern look, but it might 'warm' it up a bit.
Black gloss & white tiles sounds lovely, but I think it will be hard work to keep clean & shiny.
  • I had my worktops done in granite with https://www.polarstone.co.uk and there prices were low!

Stay away from the costly granites such as the blacks and go for the lighter ones.
They do around 60 colours to choose from so i think that should help decide, just email them your sizes.
I thought granite etc was going to be expensive also, but the better half was pretty convincing and in the end we payed just over 300 pound more than budgeted and have some fab worktops that will last longer than the house.

My daughter has black granite floor tiles, the shiny ones, and they look lovely but show up every tiny speck of dust, stray hair and food spill, not to mention mud and wet from shoes. Shiny is lovely to look at but it soooooo difficult to maintain.
:hello:  please play nicely children !
