I bought furniture from Debenhams online (after viewing instore). There are some faults with the upholstering. I have send pics via email and Debenhams have agreed that something needs to be done. They rang yesterday and offered to replace the suite. We are leaving the UK on Aug. 30th for 6 months and the lady said they couldn't deliver a replacement by then. I suggested that they could do it on our return but she then said that she couldn't guarantee that they would have the same suite to deliver to us in Feb. So she asked if we would accept a reduction in price. I asked how much she would be prepared to reduce it by and she said she would have to discuss it with her superiors.
This is the state of affairs at the moment. What would be a fair discount?

How long is a piece of string?
It all depends on how severe the defects are.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Well the defects are bad enough for them to offer to replace the suite but as this isn't feasible..........0

Well, if the defects are that bad do you really want it even at a reduced price?0

for me no discount would be enough. if its noticable enough for you to call them then it will always be noticable.A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0

Why don't you ask for a refund? they have to refund under these circumstances because it is faulty, then you can choose a new one when you get back. My friend had loads of hassle with Debenhams recently. Good luck.0 -
Yes I agree. Debenhams are making things awkward though by saying that they are unable to replace it within the time scale.0

Yes this is probably the way to go. I just needed some suggestions as how to proceed with this. It's so disappointing as I waited 2 months for delivery after having saved so hard!0 -

If you are leaving the UK for 6 months, then surely you have someone looking after your home, at least a keyholder somewhere? If you want a replacement, is there not someone you could trust well enough to leave in charge of this situation? They could email you the progress and pictures of the new suite etc.
Personally I too would go for a refund though - they agree it needs replacing but your circumstances are different than the normal ones and they should understand that. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
