What veg is it?

I picked up my fruit and veg from the food co-op today (£6 for about a tenners worth in Tesco), lovely stuff, really fresh. In the salad bag was something that might be new potatoes or sweet potatoes. They look like elongated new potatoes, a bit bumpy and some bits have a slight pink tinge. They seem to be washed as they aren't muddy - the ordinary spuds were muddy. They look like a cross between the two - anyone know what they are likely to be? I wouldn't know what to do with a sweet potato!

Sound like sweet potatoes. I know what I'd do with them - give them to my neighbour! I don't like them at all. Delia suggests oven roasting them.

Oh I love sweet potato. You can peel and roast with other veg or you can made lovely soup with sweet potato, squash, onion and lentils. You can also bake them just like an ordinary potato. Or you can peel and mash. They cook quickly.

  • That's very odd, they don't really look like that, definitely more new potato coloured. They are even a bit more knobbly than the above pic too although the general shape is right. Maybe I should just cook them to go with a salad and see what happens!
  • Jerusalem artichokes maybe?
