Raising other people's children

I came across this book review recently, and thought I'd link to it.
"Wider Family Matters - a guide for family and friends raising children who cannot live with their parents"

I know various forum users are rearing children who aren't their own, and thought it may be useful to someone. I am sure you could order it from your library?

  • Wow, I could have done with this a few years ago when I took on care of a 16 year old girl (student of mine in a dire situation). She was with me 3 years. As she was over 16 I assumed I could get no financial help for her, I also found it hard to know where the parent/friend/teacher boundaries lay. I wish I'd known about this book then.

To anyone who is doing this, it is hard work but very rewarding. My "ward" now has a child of her own and I am very proud of her, she is my best friend and considered part of the family by my parents and siblings. It is worth it.

  • Thanks for this - this book looks really interesting. We have just taken on our 13yr old niece and we are finding it hard to find support.
I like you. I shall kill you last.

I have written the details down, and signed up for their newsletters. This may be a great help to me. Thanks.
