Does travel insurance cancellation cover both of us if i'm ill and can't go?

Hi,
I have travel insurance with my Lloyds TSB account. I am supposed to be off to Spain next Wed for a week with a friend, but may have to cancel for medical reasons. I actually paid/booked whole holiday (I am the lead name) with Easy holidays (i.e easyjet, but basically the do the flight and hotel all together so its a 'holiday' I guess). Anyway, what I wanted to know is if I can't go, can we both claim the money back throught the insurance or will they expect him to go on his own? BTW he also had Lloyds TSB travel insurance. Total cost by the way was £588 for both of us.

I don't know the specifics of the LTSB policy so I would suggest you dig out the paperwork and give them a call.
The norm on travel insurance policies I've had in the past was that if you had a problem that required you to cancel it would also cover cancellation by a travelling companion or even a whole group or family.
My wife's mother became ill just before a holiday a few years ago, the policy covered cancellation by both of us - however I decided to go on my own, so it just paid out for the missus! Had a great time!!0 -
If you and your friend have lived together as a couple for at least 6 months then both of you should be covered even if the LTSB account is in your sole name.
If this is not the case then your friend should have taken out his/her own travel insurance.0 -
I would expect them to cover both of you however don't be too surprised if they don't. I have a friend who was travelling with her partner and her daughter. Her daughter became ill and was advised not to travel. They had insurance but it would only cover one adult and the child. They said only one person needs to stay home to look after the little one. In the end they transferred the holiday to her sister and family instead.0

You will each claim off your own policies.
The only way you could claim for both of you (from one policy) would be if the policy is a joint one (with your friend jointly named on the policy).
A policyholder can only claim for their losses, in your case your claim is due to your illness, and your friend will be claiming off his insurance on the grounds that the person he was travelling with is too ill to go.0 -
I am also with LTSB gold as is my partner (a joint account)
my partner's grown up daughter has had a brain haemorrhage, and is very ill.
we are due to go on holiday in 8 days! Very unlikely we will go at the moment.
She will be covered, but will I be ? It doesn't look like I will be. as the daughter is not "close relative" of mine. I cannot believe they would expect me to travell alone and/or leave my partner alone at this time"0 -

Turns out I will be covered but.... there is a £40 excess on every element, depending on what they mean by that, it could be a lot of £40's
for flights, two internal flights, two hotel bookings.0
