i am on tiscali dial up where its completly free. can i take my laptop to someone elses house and conect to the internet from her phone line or do i have to change my settings.

Yep - as far as the dial-up modem in your laptop is concerned a phone line is a phone line.

I know with wanadoo that you register your number and can only dial from that one (for the anytime service). If you are on a dial up 1p per minute sort of thing, then that would work, but anytime type deals would have your number registered against them.0

some Isp's use cli to make sure your using the phone line youve signed up from.
You didnt have to with BTinternet.

You can only access the Internet from the telephone number you provided when you joined Tiscali.
