In fact, just worked out everything so am armed for tomorrow. Am due 5 hours overtime from last pay period, 6 hours overtime from this period and also just noticed I have not had my raise included in this paypacket although should have taken place mid way through the month.

Also, I was sure I was meant to have an additional store locator allowance which has never been added on. It possibly means I should have and additional 25p for every hour I have worked. Might not sound like much but even working on my basic hours of 12 a week thats an additional £78! Add to that all the overtime I have done which averages about 15 per month and thats another £22.50.

All in all, thats a couple of hundred quid approx which I am down.

So annoying that am also paying basic rate tax so must be due some of that back too....must chase that up Monday as I def overpaid in the last tax year and the man at tax office said he was going to send.

    quick update

Still had a blub day today :(

Tried speaking to manager and whilst I understood where she was coming from....just felt completely brushed aside

Asked if I could have a quiet word - during my lunch break! but she insisted we spoke where we were ie shop floor.

She basically said I should speak to my direct manager after Monday.

Confirmed they have not received my notice letter so in effect I can stay on if needs be. Next shift therefore is 4 hours on Wednesday which financially is a nightmare and who knows whats happening with other job.

Wouldnt comment of reference except to say that my manager is not able to provide a reference which I said I know now but manager never told me that. She didnt want to get into a discussion without talking to my manager which is perfectly reasonable I suppose.

In terms of back due money, unallocated pay rise and store locator amount - have to speak to manager as they are only one who can deal with.

All in all, not a satisfactory response but completely expected. I guess what I realised is i just want to feel like I matter. Felt today like I was just a piece of the furniture performing a function with no concern for feelings from the management.

I suspect i need to grow a thicker skin :( After all, part of what I loved about the job was that I just went in, did my shift and left again.

Should be sorted by next week.

    Hey sweetie,

I'm just checking in to see if anything had been resolved for you.

I really hope now you've raised it all with the manager your line manager will get their bottom kicked and sort it all out for you asap.

If not chick you'll have to speak to Head Office HR who will be so terrified that these uncaring numskulls have left the company open to legal action that it should all be sorted in double quick time.

Let's hope the store management can actually do their job and you won't have to do that.

Not much more I can add, except to say that if you incurr any charges for your work messing up your wages, then ask for them to pay them back to you as it is THEIR fault that you incurred them

Hi angelflower - I find myself amazed at the calibre, or should I say lack of calibre, of supermarket 'managers'. Where I work (ASDA) most seem to have been 'chosen' purely for their belief that 'ASDA/WAL-MART can do no wrong'.
Man management and communications skills don't seem to enter into it, and when the likes of a 'lowly colleague', such as yours truly, has the audacity to question anything, he is automatically labelled a 'trouble maker'.
I work on a 'Seasonal' contract, as I was only looking for part-time work, and was working about 80 - 90 hours a month. Six weeks ago, I was asked to work on a Saturday evening, but, as I had already made arrangements to visit my daughter in Manchester, I told them that I was unable to work. The 'key colleague' was most put out, even though I pointed out that I had, already, exceeded the number of 'shifts' that I am contractually obliged to work in a twelve month period, and told me that 'someone would call me tomorrow'.
Since then, I have had no work, at all, from ASDA - nobody contacted me, and on the three occasions that I have called the store, I have been told that they will call me. I haven't, at least to the best of my knowledge, been sacked and my discount card is still working.
It does, however, make life difficult as that was my ONLY source of income - I am not eligible for any benefits as I was self-employed for 25 years, and my wife works. She is starting to get a bit fed up of supporting me.
Anyway, af, that's my rant over - I hope your problems get sorted.

  • rog....what a nightmare! Yours is even worse than my story!!! I guess I just thought that I was a bit more valued than it now appears I was.

Some news.....got a call from the new job this morning....essentially apologising and saying they thought i was starting this morning. They will prepare contract today and am going to go in and sign it this afternoon and also see the girls i will be working with again. I should then be starting with them tomorrow!!!

As for the supermarket....my manager isnt in store today but was told to expect a call. As yet, nothing. To be honest, am thinking that I may just leave the job now. I was only going to be sticking it out for another 5 weeks until started ou course and am thinking i could pick up a shift in a chippie or delivery work if i need to. They are still due me money but i just dont think I am happy to continue and also to try and sort things out with manager. I really want to just get it all in writing about the money that is due me and take it from there. Dont want to get into an emotional discussion or to be seen as a trouble maker. I just want now what I am owed. Will see what happens during the rest of today. Thanks for all who have posted though.....you guys have (yet again) helped me through another crisis!!
