Having such a nighmare week its getting me down so badly. Due to incompetent manager (or to be honest i feel like its actually not so much incompetence but rather complete disregard for other people ie ME) it is a possibility i have lost out on the job offer I had - at worst. At best I have lost out on minimum of a weeks salary which I just cant afford to be without at the moment. Six weeks ago they asked for a reference and she kept on saying she would do and she had done. Found out she hadnt and had to keep on pestering her.
My start date was meant to be monday next week but as she hadnt sent in the ref, they couldnt send out the contract.
Finally this week, I decided to go above her and was told she is not the person who does references but they would be done centrally. They then did it for me the same day. Aforementioned manager on holiday all this week. However, also got an email from her this morning as she had asked me 2 weeks ago to email her the details and she would do it. She also sent one yesterday so on one hand hopefully the new job now have both but on the second, what a bl**dy mess....
Still no sign of contract so emailed the lady at the new job to check status and she is normally really good at replying but just checked and nothing.....
Went into supermarket job as we got paid today and it was short. Went to office to find out why as I also had a problem last month. Turns out that aforementioned manager hasnt passed through my holiday form so I am recorded as having all this unauthorised absence and so they have deducted it from my overtime. I was so desperate to get that money as I dont have any other income this month. Going to be another month that I wont make the mortgage.
In addition, as new job was starting Monday, supermarket (well aforementioned manager) agreed to a change in my hours by reducing and changing times to allow me 10 hours between now and my OU course starting but she hasnt done that either so officially my last day is Saturday which I just cant face as I am so upset and mad with her/them and so stressed about the unknown. Really there is 2 problems with this....1. no contract from Saturday so basically I am unemployed again or 2. she hasnt actually dealt with my resignation letter at all because I was going to be staying on and I might still be held to months notice which isnt so much a problem if i lose out on other job but will be problem if its just a delay.
Its the unknown.....nothing i can do now until monday as manager at supermarket isnt back and new office job wont have anyone there till then but i just dont know what to do.....cant face another day working at supermarket, couldnt even look or talk to the staff today, burst out crying and had to walk out which is not like me. Last sat with the stress of it all I was sick and had to leave early, really dont want to be there if I am in the same state.
Any advice on how to handle things?

Big deep breaths and lots of virtual hugs
I'm really really sorry you're having such a rotten time but try and sit tight til Monday and TRY not to second guess what will happen. "What if" is usually worse than whatever the outcome is-our imaginations can be our worst enemies. Console yourself with the thought of the official complaint you're going to lodge about this incomptent nincompoop once the reference is done !
Try and stay calm-knowing that once it's settled you can make life very uncomfortable for her-On Monday just be very businesslike about it-and make lots of notes about what is said !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Thanks guys...helped even just writing it all down. Just went downstairs to give my neighbour a pot of jam to hear his daugher had her new born baby taken into foster care....puts it all into perspective.
Nah, cleosmum, Sainsbury. Mad because I cant fault them and have absolutely loved working there the last 7 months, just been this situation everything seems to have backfired and really is down to one person. Dont want to create drama with or for her to be honest but just feel so let down.DFW 228 LONG H 68

 Blimey honey i don't blame you for feeling stressed out - what a complete bl00dy nightmare!
Can you go above people's heads to get this sorted out?
I would. Do you have an HR person or overall manager on site you can go to?
Explain how much hardship this is causing for you - not being able to pay the mortgage because of someone else's incompetence is a big fricken deal!
Big hugs hon - and I'm horrified about your neighbours baby.

I know ....blinking shocking. The family are what one may call ' a bit rough' but they are nice enough. The daughter has had problems with drugs, the baby's father currently in jail. The baby was taken from her at the hospital...cant imagine what that must be like. She is allowed 6 hours supervised visitation a week. Her last child died from cot death too....how on earth do you keep going???
Yeah, I think I will have to go above her to try and get it sorted but honestly I dont know what it will achieve. I also really like her actually, but just feel let down. The reference has been done now. They are short staffed so am sure I will be able to continue working but I dont know how that affects my contract etc so will have to talk to someone about that.
To be honest, if i just knew the other job was secure, I woudl be quite happy to walk away from them...I think thats what I am worried about the most, that there will be a huge delay in starting her or that they might still turn round and not give me the job. Whilst I dont think that will happen, it is a possibiltyDFW 228 LONG H 68

Aw that sounds just horrible. I hope you can get a wee bit of a break from it over the weekend. Keep us updated on what happens.
Do you have a partner who could pay a larger share of the mortgage for this month until your wages are sorted?0 -

As the shortage is their fault then I don't see why HR couldn't arrange some kind of wage advance if it is causing hardship. You'll probably need to talk to them direct but it can probably be sorted as Sainsburys have a rep for been a decent employerI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
