Lloyds TSB DD problem

in Credit cards
I'm not sure if I should post this on here or the current account thread.
I've had a Lloyds TSB Platinum card for around 2 months purely to take advantage of the 13 month 0% balance transfer offer. I had a DD setup to collect the minimum payment from my A&L account and the first month's DD went through fine.
I'm also in the process of changing my banking from A&L to First Direct and was told that all the mandates would be transferred on 11/08/08. On checking my LTSB credit card statement online today I noticed that the DD was collected from my First Direct account on the 13th then immediately returned. I contacted LTSB and they said the DD was refused as no live mandate. First Direct have said that LTSB shouldn't have attempted to collect from the account until on or after the 13th as they would (should) have been aware that the mandate wouldn't have been live until then and that they could provide me with an ADDACS trace to back this up.
LTSB say that as the DD wasn't collected successfully then a late payment fee of £12 will be charged. I pointed out that this wasn't my fault and that funds were available in whichever account they had tried to collect from but they wouldn't budge. They said they could take a debit card payment over the phone but only from a LTSB account and the manual payment I've sent from my FD account today will probably not be credited until after 4 working days.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and did you manage to get the late fee refunded?

Just to warn you that they may remove your 0% promotion aswell.
I haven't really got a solution for you but speak to Lloyds TSB nicely and explain what has happened clearly, they should see that it is a one off unfortunate situation and reverse the penalty. Good Luck.0 -

That was one of the first things I made sure I checked when I phoned them and was told by two separate CS representatives that it wouldn't be affected. My next statement is due on the 18th so I'll be checking it carefully for any mention of the removal of the 0% deal.
My main issue is that LTSB are blaming First Direct and vice versa. I've got a feeling it may be a pain to get this one sorted."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
How on earth would LTSB be aware that your FD D/D mandate would not be live until the 13th?0

According to FD the ADDACS system would have told them. http://www.bacs.co.uk/BACS/Businesses/Direct+Debit/Services/ADDACS/"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
The D/D I assume was due on the 11th and LTSB would have asked for it then.
If this is the case then you were late in paying.0 -

There was money available in whichever account LTSB chose to take the DD from. I'm not sure how you think your posts are helping."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
Not too long ago, I had an issue with LTSB and DD's.
I switched the account I paid my DD from and for 6 months or so all things were fine - they then "upgraded" my card and for some reason applied for the next payment from my "old" account which got bounced.
I phoned them to ask what they were up to and they accepted it was their mistake, I got my fee and interest refunded and not a mark on my credit file. I made sure they put notes all over my account to make it crystal clear this was their balls up.
Worth giving them a call, for a first offence they might cut you some slack if you explain the situation."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Thanks. I've been on the phone again to FD this morning and they are ordering an ADDACS trace for me. They say they sent the updated instruction to LTSB in plenty of time for them to amend their details but it looks like LTSB sat on it so that not enough time was given to allow the lodgement hence the DD bouncing.
My LTSB statement is due tomorrow so I'll check it for the late payment fee and give them another call. My main concern is that my 13month 0% deal isn't affected as I only made the BT just over a month ago but I'll ask them to remove the late fee and make sure that no late payment is entered on my credit files."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0
