Has anyone got an insurance provider who they could recommend for home and contents? I want to change from the Halifax who I have found to be as useful as a chocolate teapot

Use the Defaqto site to compare products like for like.

Best in terms of customer service and policy cover are firms like NFU, Hiscox and Chubb.
My Hiscox 505 policy cost the same as my old More Than policy but to do that I had to select a £250 xs instead of £100. I'm happy to carry that £250 risk in return for a far superior product.0 -
Mattymoo is right - there are other threads on this.
Hiscox and Chubb tend to be at the higher end of the market - but still investigate. NFU and indeed the Co-op also seem to provide a good service - and if they don't they are very good at putting things right when you complain - which is fair enough.
Consider approaching an insurance broker for advise - they may have other options and schemes for you.
As you have found with your comments on Halifax, you do often pay for what you get with Insurers so don't always go for the cheapest - check the cover and make enquiries as to the service.0 -
Might well get shot down, but I am with Legal & General and have had zero issues with them. 5 Years ago or so i was unlucky enough to be broken into and went through a claim and it was settle very quickly with no issues.
I find them reasonably competative too. My local mortgage broker (who i didt use for a mortgage) also got me 10% the internet price.0 -
I may try Legal & General for home and contents assurance. I have an existing medical condition and was having problems looking for life assurance about 5 years ago. Legal and General were the only company who took me on without fuss and did not 'bog' their arm into me by loading the policy.:D0
