Homecall 0870 rip off number.

I signed up for Homecall in a Phones 4 U Shop. I recently discovered that to get hold of their customer service, you have to phone an expensive 0870 number. What a rip off, they even make money from you if you have a problem.

I'm afraid HomeCall are just one of the many, many companies that use 0870 to gain revenue of upto 4ppm for you calling them and being kept on hold.

A search on SayNoTo0870 reveals a geographical of 0161 451 1000 or 0161 451 5145. There are a few freephone numbers but they'll be sales and are unlikely to transfer you as they know they wouldn't gain the revenue then. They are 0800 1075526, 0800 1076532.

Some of the above numbers have not been verified as yet but feel free to try them.

MSE Martin also sponsors SayNoTo0870 and it has its own very long thread here.
  • thats the least of your problems, dont ever get their broadband, then you will have a problem, disgraceful company,

Complete agree Paddy. Why should companies makes money like this when things go wrong. All I would say is make sure you have your say on the matter. Ofcom are currently consulting on the future of 0870s but the deadline is soon: 6 Dec '05.
You can email Ofcom on nts:@ofcom.org.uk.

You wouldn't be the only one - check out nearly 300 public responses so far...

Around 7.5ppm depending on teleco used and whether daytime, evening or weekend. Your call will cost around £8 if you made it during the daytime. During the evening & weekends it costs around 2ppm. I think anyhow as I try not to call 0870 numbers for this reason.

If you haven't already you can put your views into ofcom about these numbers by visiting:-

    and filling in both consultations.
  • thanks bbb_uk I am with bt and did use it in the evening time, although i'm not impressed at all. I will look at the website to sayno to 0870.

10p a minute at all times.

    Nice little (extra) earner then.

Another reason never to deal with that company.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
