Hi
I have broadband but the IP ADDRESS is fixed. I need to change my IP ADDRESS from time to time, so somebody suggested i used this website:
http://www.freeukisp.co.uk/
which is basically dial-up internet for free, which would give me a different IP ADDRESS.
I have registered and its asked me to download something, but once i open this file/folder it brings up a warnign that im about to change im internet settings?!
Im scared of doing this as i must be able to use my regular broadband aswell as using dial-up now and again. What should i do? is it safe to accept these changes and still chose between the two as and when i feel?
Can i save my current broadband settings just in case?
I use my computer alot so i need access to my broadband everyday, is this still possible when using the freeukisp service?
I dont think there is any other way around this fixed IP ADDRESS problem (proxy is a no no) but any other suggestions would be great
if its safe to accept the changes to my internet settings and still use both services to connect to the net then im happy to do so....
Thanks

how do you connect to your broadband? usb modem, or ethernet/router?
why do you need different IPs? are you doing something you shouldnt be?
(limits per ip on web download sites/posting abusive message to internet forums/spamming/etc)???
there will hopefully be a page on that isp showing you how to set up a DUN connection manually, but you should be ok running the DUN install thinger...0 -
i connect using a router, for my broadband
what is DUN?
im not doing anything illegal, im just playing a few tricks on a mate of mine who owns his own website....childish stuff really lol
will the thing ive installed mess up all my broadband settings you think? is there anyway to save them?
Thanks for your help mate...0 -
Personally, I wouldn't use their installer, but instead follow the guide that they provide in the Tech Support section to manually set up a separate dial-up connection.
That way you know exactly what's been changed, and what to do if/when you want to remove it at some point in the future.0 -
go via a 3rd party proxy server (google it)i0

or switch off your router for 30 minutes. you will normally be given a new IP address when you reconnect.
(depends on the time of day).Get some gorm.0 -

Yes a proxy server will change your ip or you could use "tor" this will give you a different ip every time you use it. Easyest way is some thing like OperaTor http://archetwist.com/en/opera/operator0 -
Thanks for your replies
I dont want to use a proxy as in my experience they are very slow, and most dont load up all the page information etc etc
Unless they have changed and improved in recent times?
What is this TOR? i've never heard of it, will it give me a new IP ADDRESS everytime i use it? i looked on the link you provided but there appears to be a few different types of software available for download? which one is it?
Again thanks for all your replies0 -
you on cable or asdl. Anyway the file you downloaded is just the dialup settings. once you have done that go to ie , tools, internet options, connections, then tick box that says dial whenever network connection is not available.
This will then only dial the dialup coonnection when the broadband is disconnected.0 -
Im on cable i think (virginmedia is my provider)
So are you saying its safe to open the file ive downloaded then? im scared that i wont be able to connect back on my broadband as the settings are being changed!
what are the dangers that the file i have downloaded might change my settings so much that i wont be able to re-connect with my broadband later?
Thanks0 -

I've never experienced the pages not loading up problem but I use private proxies. That also gets around the speed problem, because there aren't thousands of people using them at the same time.
Having said that, if you're complaining about the speed of a proxy, you'll not like dialup much. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
