loot scam

my son bought a ps3 from the loot newspaper and unfortunatley got scammed by the seller. the advert was for 4 new ps3's(again), next day delivery and was given a loot safecall number to call. my son spoke the advertiser and he claimed he was in carlisle he gave my son his name and bank details and told him to put the £230 into his account and he would check the money had gone in and then he would send the console out.My son put the money in to the account and low and behold no ps3 came, we got hold of loot but they said there was nothing they could do about it,even though it was obvious that this man had done this to other people as his advert claimed that he had 4 more for sale.. we then tried to report the fraud to the police, they gave us a crime number and told us to go to the bank and give in the mans details and the crime number and that it was then upto the loot and the hsbc to investigate the crime, the bank and the loot claim that they can do nothiing untill the police step in but the police claim that due to a new act brought out in 2007 called the a.c.p.o.s that they dont have to do anything and wouldnt even take a statement to look into the case. what do we pay our forces for?

This ACPOS?

This may clarify things:

I'm fairly sure this also applies to fraudulent bank payments, although I can't find any solid info on that.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Unfortunately the scam is just about the most common one there is and it is very difficult to suggest anything that might help. My only suggestion is that you persevere with your bank and the police to see if anything at all can be done.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Think of the chaos if every time you wrote a cheque the person seeing that cheque could get all your details from the issuing bank :eek:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. WHY would you ever have thought it was a good idea to lodge £230 into someones account when you had no other details about them? Were there no alarm bells ringing at all?
PS/3s are only £50 more than that from a reputable retailer.0 -
