As above really, off to the military tattoo at the castle tomorrow, and would
like to know the best place to park within a sensible distance of the castle.
The show starts at 10.30 and includes fireworks at the end. What is the
likely finish time, as we have to drive over to Musselborough, to stay with
friends, at the end?
A POST CODE for the sat. nav. would be just perfect.
Answers before 10pm. tonight please, as we have an early start!....Thanks. :T

I used to stay at teh Apex htel on the Grassmarket and from what I remember you can park on the grassmarket itself free of charge after 6pm up until 8am.
This was a few years ago however and there was a limited amount of spaces
The postcode of the Apex which is central to the grassmarket area and about a 5-10 minute walk to the castle is EH1 2HS0 -
Don't even think of parking in the centre.
Find a car park on the outskirts and take a bus in. The service from the airport is very frequent and reliable, and ends up within walking distance of the castle, so maybe you should park near the airport.0 -

Thanks for that Shaun_d123 and Voyager2002, does anyone know if the park n ride, will have extended hours, what with the festival and tattoo. Please bear in mind that the tattoo does not end til midnight. Thanks.0 -
We have been to the Tattoo the last few years and always park at the NCP at Castle Terrace (post code: EH1 2EW).
Always plenty of spaces, is 24 hours and a short walk up to the Castle.
The show finishes around midnight but give another half hour for getting out and back to the car park.
Hope this helps
Oh and have a great night - we did!0 -
The night buses are quite good and run all night, The 26/N26 run from the centre out to Musselbrough as well so you may be as well to park at your friends and just get the bus all the way into town.
Information and timetables on http://www.lothianbuses.com/index2.php
The airport Park and ride is on theother side of town to musselbrough so may feel like a long way in thewrong direction at that time of night!

Thanks skystar and MenstrieBen, both great options.
At least I now feel that I do not have a 3 mile walk ahead of me!
Is NCP at Castle Terrace, likely to have space on a Saturday night?...Thanks.0 -
For the tattoo the on-street parking for about a mile around the castle has been suspended.
The nearest places to find any parking are the bottom half of the Royal Mile (ie down towards Holyrood from North Bridge / South Bridge. After 6:30 on the on-street parking is free, before then it's £2 an hour
There is a multi-storey car park behind the SAS Radisson which charges £3 for the first 2 hours
Sat Nav is going to be useless in this area BTW as there are LOTS of narrow side streets0 -
