Running Away

Hi,
Unfortunately I have managed to run up a significant amount of debt, and now I need to emigrate to Australia, for family reasons.
I'm not going to be able to repay my debt in full by the time I leave, but am repaying as much as possible
Is my debt enforceable in Austalia? And how likely is it that I can be tracked down?

Theoretically Debts can be traced all over the world. It really only depends on how proactive the DCAs are in tracking you down. Should you ever return you would be in a right mess financially though so it's best to sort them out before you emigrate.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

1. If you lived "off the grid" in Australia, and told no-one in the UK where you were going, not even what country you were moving to, then you'd have the best chance of getting away with it.
2. But this would mean not signing up for any services in Australia, such as phone, energy, healthcare, electoral roll, rental agreement, mortgage, car insurance, bank account, etc. I know of a person who was "traced" from the UK because he opened an account with Telstra, Australia's equivalent to BT.
3. Some people get away with it and some people don't. Could you really live with the worry that one day you'll get a knock on the door and your past will catch up with you?
4. Plus - you borrowed the money - you should pay it back. Sorry but it's true :AMy Debt Free Diary I owe:

UK Consumer Debt is NOT enforceable in Australia, nor will UK 'debt impact in any way on your Australian Credit Status - FACT.
If a tracing agent/Debt Collector does manage to find you in Australia he would have no legal powers other than to ask you if you wish to make any payment towards the 'debt'.
You CAN make payments towards UK Consumer Debts from Australia.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

It can be 'chased', UR - but it can not be pursued through the courts of any other country in the EU.
Equally, if a CCJ is issued, against you, in the UK, this would have No Legal Power in any other Country, whether EU or not.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser.
