Can it play avi and mpgs off a DVD? WHat about CDR's and MP3's?No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Picked one up in-store today for £35.99 (includes 10% discount for today only), I hope it's as good as it seems

            DAM !
If only there was a way to modify this device so that I could link it to my PC.
I'm going to have to spend ages burning DIVX files now to CD
Also I'd be interested to hear from people on what DIVX format it plays
I think there are about 3 DIVX formats.. I'm not sure if XVID is a DIVX format also0 -

YES,YES,YESCan it play avi and mpgs off a DVD? WHat about CDR's and MP3's?
I've been testing one today
Seems fine with all versions of DIVX
XVID is tricky because there are so many different versions
mp3--fine
MPEG as data--fine
Used DVD+R and CDR so farYOU CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING........
WHERE WOULD YOU KEEP IT!!!0 -
This looks like a decent altenative at £48.02 including p and p.

Click on the "Crystal Slimline DVD DivX Player"
If anybody has one i'd be curious to know what they are like.0 -
Freestyle - you need a Kiss dvd player - some of those can be networked to a pc
or better yet mod an xbox or buy a pre-modded one, load XB media centre onto it, network it to your pc and voila - a media jukebox!!!!
neither option is particularly cheap (£200ish) but it will save all that copying
actually you can get a Kiss DP-1500 for £131 here0 -
Steer clear of the crystal player, i bought one and it doesent play all formats and is noisey.
I'd recommend the Yamada 6600, ive had one for nearly 12 months and it plays anything thrown @ it.
Dont forget to get the updates for the latest codecs from the umax/yamada site if you do purchase one
player can be bought here for 57 quid delivered......

I bought one on Thursday with the extra 10% off. I'm very impressed. It's played everything I've thrown at it. Being able to play DivX is very handy as I you can fit so many files on one DVD.
There seem to still be quite a few around, I phoned several stores in Liverpool and they all had stock on Thursday.0 -
Looks like they are getting new stock for the DVD/DivX player. Liverpool city centre had sold out last week but my colleague picked up a player yesterday (3/12/04).
I've noticed it's marked at 49.99 on the box in many stores
, but rest assured, when it is scanned it goes through as 39.99
