Turned Down for Virgin 0% card - where next?

Hi and thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

I don't have a lot of credit card debt (about £500), but the debt I do have seems to be sticking around. I am trying to get a 0% or low rate card and having applied and been declined on the Virgin 0% card I am wondering what my next step should be.

I currently have 2 credit cards - one of which I have paid off (capital one card at 18.7%) and an RBS Visa which is currently at 14%.

My credit file says I have 'fair' credit - with a score of 746. No missed payment and nothing that looks like it should affect me too much - however, I've never had great credit.

Any advice or guidance greatly appreciated.

Your situation is similar to mine. I owed around £450 on 2 cards so i applied for a 0% Balance transfer with Egg. They gave me a £500 limit, I transfered all my debt to the card and paid a 3% charge for doing it. and that is 0% for 12 months so it suits me fine. Another one to try is Halifax - they gave me a £800 limit - im just waiting for that in the post now. Good luck

My goal is to increase my credit worthiness and as such I am stuck on what to do next. Do I apply for another credit card (the egg one you suggested) or should I simply make more of an effort to clear my existing card quickly? I'm worried that another application for a credit card will have an adverse effect on my credit score. I don't plan to make any major purchases till next year, but at that stage I wish to purchase a house and as such want to be squeaky clean. I'm sure that with a little effort I could clear the balance on my RBS Visa within 3 months. Is chasing a 0% card worth it for this time limit?

    Once again thanks.
