My vet has sent all it's customers letters to warn that Lungworm (dogs) is in our area and that the only treatment for it is Advocate flea spot on treatment and Panacur worm treatment.
It can be deadly. It's mainly from dogs eating Slugs and Snails but can be caught by the dog eating grass

Which is why wormers from pet shops and supermarkets are of no use what so ever0

What area of the country is this? My dogs are currently wormed with panacur paste, but we use front line spot on for Flea treatment0

I think you will find its the brand the vet stocks, which is why he recommends it. I use frontline for fleas and drontal worm tablets. I cant understand why people buy those cheap worm tablets, when you can now get drontal from almost anyhwere.0 -

No it's not, Advocate is the only flea treatment to prevent Lungworm as far as I know, Frontline does not. You can buy Advocate online but you need a prescription. The vets used to have Frontline, they have now swapped to Advocate. You shouldn't tell this to people, it's not because the vets want to make money.
Lungworm is in the South East in some arears but is spreading, you should be extra careful if your dog eats slugs and snails or eats a lot of grass.0 -

Thats ok, you did miss read what I posted
I would assume that its the main brand they stock, which is why I posted the answer to someones question. Most vets have a specific brand of goods they like to promote. maybe in this case its not0 -

They did stock Frontline, Advocate and Stronghold, but because of Lungworm coming into the area, they will only stock Advocate and nothing else because they said Advocate is the only one to help prevent Lungworm. Panacur worm treatment either in paste or tablet treats it. I'm not sure if anything else does.
I again apologise for misreading your post0 -

Advocate got approval for treatment (not prevention) of dog lungworm infection at the end of 2007. Since then its manufacturers have been pushing this particular benefit. Some vets in the South East (where this seems to be an increasing problem) strongly recommend it, and seem to be running a promotion at the moment, probably backed by the manufacturers. Others are perfectly happy with recommending separate flea treatment and wormers, and using panacur to treat suspected lungworm infections.
Pros and cons with all things, but your vet will be able to justify why they think Advocate is best for your dog - in an all round sense.0
